The Lagos-Ibadan Expressway project represents one of our most significant achievements in large-scale solar street lighting deployment. This case study details the challenges, solutions, and outcomes of this landmark installation.
Project Background
The Lagos-Ibadan Expressway is one of the most critical transport corridors in West Africa, connecting Nigeria’s commercial capital to its industrial heartland. With millions of vehicles using this route daily, reliable lighting was essential for safety.
The Challenge
Several factors made this project particularly demanding:
- High traffic volumes requiring minimal installation disruption
- Variable weather conditions including heavy rainfall during monsoon season
- Remote sections with no grid access for maintenance support
- Security concerns in some areas
Our Solution
We deployed 250+ high-performance solar street lights with the following specifications:
- 100W LED fixtures delivering 15,000 lumens each
- LiFePO4 batteries with 5-night autonomy
- IP66-rated enclosures with enhanced corrosion protection
- Smart controllers with remote monitoring capability
Installation Approach
To minimize traffic disruption, we implemented a night-time installation schedule. Our teams worked in coordinated shifts, completing an average of 8-10 installations per night. Pre-assembled components reduced on-site work time significantly.
Results
Since commissioning, the project has achieved:
- 99.5% system uptime
- Zero grid electricity consumption
- Significant improvement in road safety metrics
- Positive feedback from road users and authorities
